The bastion host running on an Amazon EC2 instance allows administers to jump onto servers in the private subnet to do activities such as Active Directory administration, SQL administration, AVEVA Integration Service (AIS) configuration, Tag Management Service (TMS), and restarting services. AWS Directory Service provides managed domain access control for engineers to access AVEVA Unified Engineering using Amazon Workspaces. Operations administrators log on to the Admin server via the bastion host in the public subnet that has tools to administer the AVEVA Unified Engineering platform. For streaming service, the graphics processing unit (GPU)powered Workspaces and CPU-based Workspaces that Amazon Workspaces provides grant access to each of the Unified Engineering desktop applications (AVEVA E3D, AVEVA Diagrams, AVEVA PRO/II, AVEVA Engineering, AVEVA Process Simulation, AVEVA Electrical, AVEVA P&ID, Gateways, AVEVA Instrumentation, and AVEVA Admin) to users. Amazon Workspaces is hosted in two availability zones for high availability (HA). The integration server hosts AVEVA middleware products that enable interoperability and shared services between each of the different Unified Engineering products. These server products run on Amazon EC2 instances in the backend infrastructure, and are load balanced using Amazon Elastic Load Balancer to spread the load of AVEVA products for a resilient HA architecture. For the backend, AVEVA Unified Engineering stores data in Microsoft SQL Server running on Amazon EC2 instances. For HA, the SQL servers are deployed on two Availability Zones as a primary and secondary node configuration. Amazon FSx managed file system is replicated between two Availability Zones for storage and management of AVEVA proprietary Dabacon databases, simulation files, and project shared files/folders via server message block (SMB). All end users access their Unified Engineering virtual desktop and the integrated suite of applications via Amazon Workspaces.
